Using ICTs as a tool for empowerment means that it should be able shape the decisions of every citizen's life, allowing them to appreciate the economic and social opportunities it holds. If effectively disseminated, these are tools that can convey locally relevant messages to enable every member of the society to deal with misfortunes and disasters. Most of all, ICTs ought to enable local people to interact and communicate with each other in expressing their own ideas, knowledge and culture in their own languages, within their own context.
The e-Knowledge Public Domain Project seeks to develop open content on priority development areas which shall be accessible to the communities who need it most. These development areas include education, health, agriculture, and small and medium businesses.
IThe Project will follow the following basic principles:
Identify the information needs of the community through listening/discussion groups and planning workshops with the target audience and major stakeholders.
Develop the content the way the community needs it and envisions it.
Validate the content with the target audience and major stakeholders
The e-Health Content for the Community is the eKnowledge Public Domain Pilot Project. It will develop locally produced and relevant digital content on public health, disaster and emergency messages. It will involve the participation of members of the community and public health experts, health workers within the community, and content and web developers. They will work together in planning, developing and producing the content.
e-Health for Emergencies Website will be the first output of the e-Health Content for the Community
