One Million ICT Jobs Print E-mail
One million information and communications technology (ICT) jobs? One may ask if the government can really come up with this. With millions of Filipinos remaining jobless, this accomplishment would be welcome amidst the crisis that the majority is experiencing.

The task is gigantic, but it is achievable as long as government agencies work hand in hand. The Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) is playing a major role in this. With the goal of creating one million ICT jobs, the Strategic Business Development (SBD) Group of CICT, which is headed by Commissioner Damian Domingo Mapa, will develop certain market conditions to achieve it. Among them are access to international markets, availability of human capital, an appetite for financial investment, adequate telecommunications infrastructure, and appropriate regulatory measures.

Job creation for the CICT will be a five-year project, which will be broken down into segments such as BPO (business process outsourcing), MT (medical transcription) and other e-services.

Within the next few months, CICT will disclose job creation initiatives that will be in accordance with the four pillars of the CICT roadmap: delivery of e-government services, development of the information structure, development of human capital, and development of the private sector.
